AMBASSADOR DR. BETTY OYELLA BIGOMBE MEETS WITH DEPUTY MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM, DO HUNG, ALONGSIDE AFRICAN AMBASSADORS

On September 18, 2024, Her Excellency Ambassador Dr. Betty Oyella Bigombe, Uganda’s Ambassador to Malaysia and non-resident Ambassador to Vietnam, joined other African Ambassadors accredited to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for a high-level meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Do Hung. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi, and aimed at fostering stronger diplomatic relations and cooperation between Vietnam and African nations.

During the discussions, Deputy Minister Do Hung reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to enhancing economic, political, and cultural ties with African countries. He expressed Vietnam’s interest in exploring mutual opportunities for growth in trade, investment, education, and sustainable development. The meeting highlighted the increasing importance of Africa-Vietnam relations, particularly in areas of agriculture, manufacturing, and technology.

Ambassador Dr. Betty Oyella Bigombe emphasized Uganda’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Vietnam and exploring avenues for collaboration that would be beneficial to both Uganda and the African continent at large. She commended Vietnam's impressive economic progress and shared insights on potential partnerships, particularly in sectors of mutual interest such as agribusiness, infrastructure development, and knowledge exchange.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of the need to further strengthen African-Vietnamese ties through continued dialogue, collaboration, and joint initiatives. The African Ambassadors expressed their optimism for stronger partnerships that would drive economic and social development for both Vietnam and the African continent.

This marks yet another step in Ambassador Dr. Bigombe’s active diplomatic engagements to advance Uganda’s and Africa’s foreign policy interests in Southeast Asia.
